The Delaware Art Museum is set to launch a new initiative, DelArt Cinema, offering weekly film screenings starting in January 2025. This program aims to enhance the museum's commitment to learning and engagement by introducing diverse films from around the world to its community.

Screenings will take place every Saturday at 1:30 pm, with free member screenings on the last Saturday of each month. Additionally, family-friendly screenings are scheduled for the second Sunday of each month at 1:30 pm. The museum will provide snacks through Kaffeina Cafe and a bar selling beer and wine outside its 160-seat auditorium where the films will be shown.

Tom Cavanaugh, DelArt Cinema’s Film Curator, stated, “Just as film itself is diverse, so is the community; we want fans of all filmmakers and genres to find screenings that excite them.”

The initial program aligns with DelArt’s Jazz Age Illustration exhibition and includes classic films such as Singin’ in the Rain and Some Like it Hot. The January children's screening features The Iron Giant.

February's series titled "Love in the 90s" will coincide with Black History Month, showcasing notable films like Spike Lee’s Crooklyn and Love & Basketball. February's kids' movie is Good Burger.

DelArt Cinema plans to offer curated programs spotlighting global filmmakers and exploring various directors' works, genres, locations, and pivotal moments in film history. These events aim to foster connections among local film enthusiasts.

Tom Cavanaugh expressed hope that attendees might discover new filmmakers or even find inspiration for their own creative endeavors: “As the community comes out to films that excite them, maybe they’ll also come out to some that intrigue them,” he said.
