Five Odyssey Charter School board members have resigned as the state investigates their alleged racist remarks regarding a predominately Hispanic neighboring charter school, Academia Antonia Alonso.
Board member Michael Kirifides recently resigned joining former president Josiah Wolcott, Michael Klezaras, John Nicholson and Tami Soltow.
The problem stemmed from a meeting nearly a month ago, when members allegedly said the school could "build a wall" or "erect a fence" to eradicate some traffic problems with their school and Academia Antonia Alonso. Both schools share property at office buildings located at Barley Mill Plaza.
Offensive comments directed at an African American board member candidate have also caused a fallout. She was allegedly referred to as a "token" when offering her candidacy to serve on the board.
Odyssey Charter School has selected four new board members to step in for those who officially resigned.
