Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, a U.S. Congress member representing Delaware’s at-large district since 2017, recently shared her views on the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense through a series of tweets. These statements were posted on January 25, 2025.

In her first tweet, Rep. Blunt Rochester expressed her decision to vote against Pete Hegseth's confirmation, stating, "I take my constitutional responsibility as a Senator to advise & consent seriously. After thorough evaluation, it's abundantly clear that Pete Hegseth is wholly unqualified to be the next Secretary of Defense, which is why I voted against him tonight on the floor."

She elaborated further in another tweet by explaining her approach towards evaluating nominees put forward by President Trump. She stated, "My statement after voting against confirming Pete Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense: I carefully review each nominee President Trump puts forward and judge them on their qualifications, character, and ability to do the job - on behalf of Delawareans and all Americans."

In a subsequent tweet addressing broader concerns about the role of Defense Secretary during global challenges, Rep. Blunt Rochester remarked that "The American people deserve a Defense Secretary with integrity who is capable of meeting the precarious moment we find ourselves in globally. In my estimation, Mr. Hegseth is not that person."
