Wilmington’s Public Works Department has compiled the attached list of streets on which construction or, maintenance will occur over the next week by the City itself, or by either DelDOT, Delmarva Power, or private contractors. The attached information is for Monday, June 26 through Friday, June 30, 2023.
The City’s website contains a real-time map that is updated daily so you can follow any changes to the weekly schedule caused by weather or other construction-related delays. Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams said every effort is made to compile the most accurate list each week of street projects that could affect your travel in the City the following week. She cautioned, however, that the time frames for the listed projects could be altered if they are delayed due to factors such as the weather.
Jazz Festival Winds Down
The 36th Annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival – the largest FREE jazz festival on the East Coast – winds up today in Rodney Square in downtown Wilmington, with mainstage performances beginning at 1 p.m. Motorists are advised that the following downtown street closures continue through Saturday:
- Market Street between 10th and 11th streets – ALL DAY
- 10th Street between King and Shipley streets – 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Downtown Farmers Market
The 2023 season of the popular Downtown Farmers Market at Rodney Square resumes this and every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.– rain or shine – through October 25, 2023. Motorists are advised that Market Street between 10th and 11th streets will be closed to vehicle traffic each Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Southbridge Intersection Closure
Wilmington's Department of Public Works reminds motorists that, starting on Monday, June 26, 2023, the intersection at A Street and Heald Street will be closed to through traffic for approximately two weeks for sewer separation construction related to the Southbridge Wilmington Wetlands Park. (A second closure will follow in mid-July.)
Starting Monday, general vehicular traffic will be directed along a detour route on to 4th Street, Market Street, US-13 or Christina Avenue. Townsend Street will be modified to allow two-way traffic. Local and non-truck traffic will be able to travel A Street via Lobdell Street and Townsend Street traveling Southbound, or from B Street traveling Northbound. Pedestrian access will be maintained along the west side sidewalk throughout the closure.
Signage will direct motorists along the detour route and flaggers will be on-site directing traffic as needed. Motorists should adopt a new travel route plan for the duration of the project. The Delaware Transit Corporation (DTC) operates DART First State, which offers a statewide network of public transportation options including fixed bus routes, intercounty and seasonal buses, paratransit for people with disabilities, commuter train service contracted through SEPTA, and Delaware Commute Solutions’ ride matching program. DART operates 36 bus routes in New Castle County as well as more than 40 weekday trains, eight Saturday and seven Sunday trains on the SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line. DART advises bus riders that of the following upcoming bus stop closures impacting various routes:
- 10th Street at King Street (ID 57) – Remains closed due to construction until further notice with multiple routes affected. Riders should board on King Street between 9th and 10th streets.
