Wilmington Issues Weekly Traffic and Travel Advisory for Special Events, Street Repaving, Other Construction or Repair Projects

Wilmington’s Public Works Department has compiled the attached list of streets on which construction or, maintenance will occur over the next week by the City itself, or by either DelDOT, Delmarva Power, or private contractors. The attached information is for Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23, 2023. 

The City’s website contains a real-time map that is updated daily so you can follow any changes to the weekly schedule caused by weather or other construction-related delays. Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams said every effort is made to compile the most accurate list each week of street projects that could affect your travel in the City the following week. She cautioned, however, that the time frames for the listed projects could be altered if they are delayed due to factors such as the weather.

Downtown Juneteenth Parade
Motorists are advised that tomorrow, Saturday June 17, there will be a parade in honor of Juneteenth. The parade will proceed up King Street from Martin Luther King Boulevard to 12th Street. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. King Street will be closed to vehicular traffic but Walnut Street will remain open, as will Market Street except for the 1000 block. 

Italian Festival

The St. Anthony’s Italian Festival continues through Sunday, June 18, 2023. Motorists are advised that the section of North Scott Street from West 9th to West 10th streets will remain closed to vehicular traffic until about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20. During festival hours, the following street closures will be in effect:

  • North Scott Street between West 8th Street and West 11th Street
  • Howland Street between North Scott Street and North Dupont Street
  • West 9th Street between North Lincoln Street and North Dupont Street
  • West 10th Street between North Scott Street and North Dupont Street

2023 Italian Festival hours are:

  • Monday, June 12 – Friday, June 16: 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 17: 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 18: 2 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Dining on Delaware
The first Dining on Delaware event of 2023 returns to Trolley Square this weekend, Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17. Motorists are advised that Delaware Avenue between North Clayton and North DuPont streets, as well as North DuPont Street and North Scott Street, will be closed to vehicle traffic each day starting at 4 p.m. and continuing until 11:00 p.m. Through traffic on Clayton, North DuPont and North Scott streets will not be impeded and access to parking will be available. 

Downtown Farmers Market
The 2023 season of the popular Downtown Farmers Market at Rodney Square continues this and every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.– rain or shine – through October 25, 2023. Motorists are advised that Market Street between 10th and 11th streets will be closed to vehicle traffic each Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. 

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) advises motorists in Wilmington that next week the following intersections will have intermittent single lane closures with flaggers on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.:

  • West 4th Street between Greenhill Avenue and Church Street 
DelDOT encourages motorists to continue to tune into WTMC AM, visit deldot.gov, or download the DelDOT app to keep up with the latest traffic information.

The Delaware Transit Corporation (DTC) operates DART First State, which offers a statewide network of public transportation options including fixed bus routes, intercounty and seasonal buses, paratransit for people with disabilities, commuter train service contracted through SEPTA, and Delaware Commute Solutions’ ride matching program. DART operates 36 bus routes in New Castle County as well as more than 40 weekday trains, eight Saturday and seven Sunday trains on the SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line. DART advises bus riders that of the following upcoming bus stop closures impacting various routes:

  • 10th Street at King Street (ID 57) – Remains closed due to construction until further notice with multiple routes affected.  Riders should board on King Street between 9th and 10th streets.
Also, due to the St. Anthony’s Italian Festival next week, 9th Street will be temporarily closed between Lincoln Street and DuPont Street on Sunday, June 11, through Sunday, June 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. As a result, the following bus stops will be closed temporarily: 

  • 9th Street at Lincoln Street (ID 1311) – Please board on 9th  Street at Grant Avenue (ID 3778)
  • 9th Street at Scott Street (ID 1312) – Please board on 9th Street at Grant Avenue (ID 3778)
  • 9th Street at DuPont Street (ID 1313) – Please board on 9th Street at Broom Street (ID 1314)
  • 9th Street at Clayton Street (ID 118) – Please board on 9th Street at Broom Street (ID 1314)
