Mayor Mike Purzycki recently joined the owners of 2 Much Boutique, Over the Border Tacos, and Exquisite Beauty Salon, members of City Council, City officials, family members, invited guests and members of the public for three ribbon-cutting ceremonies in recent days to officially welcome the new small businesses – all minority-owned – to Wilmington.
2 Much Boutique, at 207 North Market Street, and Over the Border Tacos, 125 North Market Street, both in the City’s LOMA section, and Exquisite Beauty Salon, at 910 North Union Street #4 on Wilmington’s West Side, are just three of the latest small businesses to set up shop in the City. In celebrating the new openings, Mayor Purzycki said that cities thrive on small businesses and people who use their own enterprising initiative to build something. “That’s what cities are,” said the Mayor. “The heartbeat of Wilmington’s economy is small business, and to have these three entrepreneurs express confidence in our City by investing here is heartening to all of us who serve. These businesses will bring both new energy and jobs, and I wish these enthusiastic and enterprising young business owners much success on their journeys.”
2 Much Boutique
Owner Lyniah Williams has brought her clothing brand “2 MUCH FOR YOU,” four years in the making, to Wilmington’s LOMA District. The 2 Much clothing boutique aims to empower girls by helping them recognize their true value and potential. Williams is grateful for the opportunity to leave her mark on the city she is proud to call home. “Just four years ago I reinvented the designer in me, and I rebranded my business,” said Williams. “I came up with a new brand name just sitting on my bed in my pink-and-white bedroom. Whenever you can step into a room and feel like a dream girl just by what you are wearing – your energy, your inner beauty, and your exterior are just 2MUCH to handle.”
Over the Border Tacos
Over the Border Tacos, owned by Jose Dominguez, Vanesa Colon and Andre Gantes, serves authentic Mexican food at the corner of North Market and East 2nd Streets in a comfortable atmosphere where all are welcome. The restaurant opened shortly before the pandemic shut down businesses all across the City, but having not only persevered but thrived in the face of adversity, Over the Border was finally ready for its official grand opening. “We’ve had a lot of support from the community, for which we are extremely grateful,” said Dominguez, “and it has definitely been an adventure, to say the least.”
Exquisite Beauty Salon
Exquisite Beauty Salon, part of the Cornerstone West CDC’s small business district, serves clients with all types of hair and creates beautiful hairstyles that leave clients with improved confidence. Owner Seberina Tucker, who grew up on Wilmington’s West Side, said she is honored to return to the community where she spent her teenage years, calling it a “dream come true.” “Exquisite Beauty Salon is where stylists love to work, and clients love to come,” said Seberina. “I want to lead my community in their healthy hair care journeys by educating clients and stylists on the treatments and maintenance that produce healthier hair practices. Ultimately, I want to provide luxury services to promote confidence and self-worth.”
