Another board member has left the Odyssey Charter School Board, a resignation the president describes as "another step in the right direction."
Michael Kirifides resigned as board member of Odyssey Charter School last week citing family health issues as the reason for his resignation. This is the resignation of the fifth board member of the Odyssey Charter School while the school undergoes a formal state review, according to Delaware Public.
The charter school’s board has remained under heavy fire since last month when alleged racist comments made by the board members came to surface. The school’s board was said to have made certain racist comments about building a wall between the two schools next door – a Greek-themed and a dual-language charter school.
The president of the school board, Maria Alonso, sees this as a positive development and asked for the resignation of the school's administrator as well. Alonso said the school administrator encouraged the racist remarks made by the board members.
