A new report reveals the Delaware Public Service Commission (PSC) adopted legislation to deregulate electric transport charging stations and electric vehicle service centers in a move to stay green.
These services were regulated in the past, making the ownership of electric cars slightly more inconvenient than owning a gas-powered vehicle. The deregulation legislation was passed to encourage more people to go electric when purchasing a new vehicle.
PSC said electric transports are not performing as an electric utility and should not be regulated as though they are.
“State regulators across the country have determined that companies purchasing electricity at retail from regulated utilities and using it to provide charging service to electric vehicles are not performing the role of an electric utility or supplier and should not be subject to regulation. Approving this order and exempting electric vehicle charging stations will remove regulatory uncertainty among those in the electric vehicle industry, as well as promote innovation, competition and private investment,” the PSC said.
