Lauren Witzke runs as a Republican challenger to incumbent Chris Coons (D) for the U.S. Senate with the general election less than 10 months away. 

Witzke, a 2006 graduate of Delmar High School in Sussex County, is running for office for the first time. She is a graduate of Goldey Beacom Business College.

Witzke filed to run for office in January. She initially considered running for the U.S. House seat. There was already a Republican in that race, so Witzke changed to the U.S. Senate race.

Witzke has been a conservative political activist and worked in the pharmaceutical industry. She has struggled with opioid addiction, overcome it and counts it as a major issue in her campaign. 

“I bring a fresh perspective. I bring a firsthand account. I present solutions and I also bring an unstoppable force to fight for them,” Witzke said. ”I want to rebuild the community. I want to restore families. I really just want to help.”
