Ten Delaware small businesses receiving grant funds from the state’s Encouraging Development, Growth and Expansion program.
Five STEM companies were granted up to $100,000 each. Veramorph Materials, based in the Delaware Innovation Space at the DuPont Experimental Station, is one of the STEM companies.
Five more businesses chosen by a group of experts, such as Volunteer Brewing Company in Middletown, have been awarded up to $50,000 each.
Kevin Schatz, owner of Volunteer Brewing, said it’s important to his business and the local economy.
“It’s huge,” Schatz said. “Not just in our business — take some of the financial burden off— but it really is an investment in community too. So the state is really investing in downtown Middletown.”
Damian DeStefano, director of the state Division of Small Business, said the 10 winners are from a range of industries.
