Brandywine School District issued the following announcement on Dec. 19.
We have been notified by a few community members that young people presenting themselves as BSD students are canvassing neighborhoods asking for cash donations for their school band or orchestra. Two of our schools, Brandywine and P.S. duPont, have been mentioned. The solicitors have supporting literature and a very detailed, believable story. Sadly, these endeavors are not legitimate. The Brandywine School District does not ask students to go door-to-door to collect cash donations for music groups or other programs. If someone comes to your home with this request, please send us an email at info@bsd.k12.de.us with as much detail as you can share. We will investigate to the best of our ability, and, if necessary, we will involve law enforcement.
