CITY OF WILMINGTON: City Government Offices Will Be Closed Monday, October 28; Recyclables Collection Schedule is Modified

Closed

City of Wilmington issued the following announcement on Oct. 25.

Wilmington City government offices will be closed on Monday, October 28, 2019, for the City’s early observance of Veterans Day, which will be commemorated by other governments in November. Because of this holiday, the Department of Public Works’ Sanitation Division will collect recyclables on a modified holiday schedule:

  • Monday, October 28: No collection of recyclables (including leaves and yard waste)
  • Tuesday, October 29: East of I-95 recycling collection
  • Wednesday, October 30: West of I-95 recycling collection
Trash collection will continue as regularly scheduled on Thursday, October 31 for areas east of I-95, and on Friday, November 1 for areas west of I-95. Sanitation crews will resume their scheduled leaf and yard waste collections on Tuesday, October 29.

Wilmington observes Veteran’s Day in late October because the City’s unions negotiated an additional holiday in the month of October more than two decades ago. When other governments observe the traditional Veteran’s Day this year on Monday, November 11, City offices will be open for business.
