City of Wilmington issued the following announcement on Oct.1.
The City, Delaware Solid Waste Authority, United Way of Delaware and AFL-CIO Community Services will present this poplar event on October 19 at Frawley Stadium
As part of Wilmington’s Beautiful City campaign to keep the City clean and litter-free as well as the State’s Keep DE Litter Free effort, Mayor Mike Purzycki and City Council Member Charles “Bud” Freel today invited citizens to the Wilmington Riverfront on Saturday, October 19, 2019 to dispose of their hazardous materials and electronic items and to securely shred their paper materials.
This popular drive-through disposal event is held each fall in Wilmington near Frawley Stadium (801 South Madison Street), home of the 2019 Carolina League Champion Wilmington Blue Rocks. The October 19 event, held rain or shine, will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The City’s Department of Public Works will again partner with the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA), United Way of Delaware and the AFL-CIO Community Services to present the event which attracts hundreds of citizens from throughout the greater Wilmington and New Castle County area.
“This is an environmentally responsible way for citizens to dispose of and recycle materials that could otherwise end up as trash and debris which could harm people or animals,” said Mayor Purzycki. “I join with Council Member Freel, who has led the fight for many years to reduce trash and litter in Wilmington, in thanking the citizen volunteers who help with the annual event and to all citizens who use this opportunity to safely dispose of electronic goods and toxic and dangerous materials that could otherwise end up as environmental hazards.”
There is a limit of two boxes of paper materials per household for the shredding service. Examples of the types of hazardous or electronic waste items that can be discarded are listed on the flyer that is attached as part of this news release. Please share the flyer with others and recycle with us on Saturday, October 19.
