Six members of the University of Delaware men’s soccer team have been recognized for their academic and athletic achievements by being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the organization.

The players honored are Luke Chatten, Charles Giordano, Rich Monath, Jan Schroeder, Sean Smith, and Marius Stenner. Eligibility for this recognition requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and at least sophomore academic standing. In addition, position players must participate in at least 90 percent of their team’s games or start in at least two-thirds of them.

Luke Chatten played in all 16 games as a starter and was selected for the Second Team All-Summit League. As a defender, he contributed to the team’s record-setting season for fewest goals allowed and most shutouts.

Charles Giordano appeared in 17 games with seven starts, scoring four goals and providing four assists for a total of 12 points.

Rich Monath led the Summit League with 12 goals and added two assists over 17 appearances and 16 starts. He was named Summit League Midfielder of the Year and also received recognition as Peak Offensive Performer of the Week during the season.

Jan Schroeder started all 16 games he played, tallying four assists. He earned First Team All-League honors and contributed defensively to both the record low number of goals conceded by his team and its highest number of shutouts in program history. Schroeder also received Peak Defensive Performer of the Week honors.

Sean Smith made 16 appearances as a starter this season. Like his fellow defenders, he helped set new program records for defensive performance. Smith was also named to the Summit League Championship All-Tournament team.

Marius Stenner recorded 11 goals and nine assists across 17 games with 16 starts this season. He led the Summit League in shots, shots on goal, assists, and points while earning First Team All-Summit League honors along with three Peak Offensive Performer of the Week awards.
