Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, who has represented Delaware’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, posted a series of statements on social media in mid-October 2025 addressing the ongoing Republican-led government shutdown and its potential impact on federal funding, health care, and public trust.
On October 15, Blunt Rochester criticized the administration’s handling of federal funds, writing, “This is what we’ve been saying: shutdown or not, this administration has been withholding funds, cancelling grants to things like cancer research, and carelessly firing dedicated federal workers. They’ve given us no reason to trust their word—it’s time Congress took a stand.”
Later that day, she highlighted the scope of the shutdown, posting, “A look at this Republican government shutdown, by the numbers:” and included a link to further details.
The following day, Blunt Rochester warned about the consequences for health care premiums, stating, “Let Me Be Blunt: your premiums are about to double. We still have a chance to set things right, but we’re on the clock. Republicans have TWO WEEKS left to come to the table and help us fix this. There’s no time to waste.”
Blunt Rochester’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over government funding and concerns about disruptions to critical services such as medical research and employee stability. As Delaware’s at-large congressional representative since 2017, she has voiced concerns about administrative actions affecting both her constituents and national programs.
Lisa Blunt Rochester was born in Philadelphia in 1962 and currently resides in Wilmington. She earned her BA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1985.
