Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, U.S. Congresswoman representing Delaware’s at-large district since 2017, addressed the ongoing government shutdown and rising health insurance costs in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between October 2 and October 3, 2025.
On October 2, Senator Blunt Rochester wrote, “This is yet another attempt to mislead you— rates aren’t set in December, they’re going out NOW. While Republicans pretend like it’s no big deal, millions of our friends and neighbors are about to be priced out of their coverage.”
The following day, she commented on the continuation of the government shutdown: “It’s day 3 of this Republican government shutdown. Reminder: they chose to shut down the government rather than take action to keep YOUR health insurance bill from going up.” This post highlighted her criticism regarding the lack of action to prevent increases in health insurance bills during the shutdown.
Later that same day, Senator Blunt Rochester emphasized her commitment to addressing rising costs: “People aren’t reading polls, they’re reading their bills and they know costs are skyrocketing thanks to this administration. That’s why I’m here— to fight for Delawareans and folks all across the country who feel left behind.”
Lisa Blunt Rochester was born in Philadelphia in 1962 and currently resides in Wilmington. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA in 1985. Before serving as Delaware’s at-large representative since 2017, she replaced John Carney in Congress.
