On May 22, 2025, Senator Rochester expressed her condolences for the victims of a shooting near the Capital Jewish Museum. She stated, “I am shocked and saddened by the shooting that claimed the lives of two young people near the Capital Jewish Museum last night, and I am praying for their families and loved ones today.” She further emphasized that “Antisemitism, hate, bigotry, and political violence have no place in our communities.”
Later that day, she addressed healthcare concerns as she prepared to speak on the Senate floor about Medicaid. In a tweet posted at 19:33 UTC, she said, “As Republicans bill to kick millions of Americans off of Medicaid, I’m heading to the floor to share stories from my constituents that illustrate the Medicaid plays in their lives.” She urged followers to tune in as she highlighted that these were not just statistics but real lives affected.
In a subsequent tweet at 21:21 UTC on May 22nd, Senator Rochester elaborated on her intention to make Republican colleagues aware of personal stories from Delawareans dependent on Medicaid. Lisa Blunt Rochester has been serving in Congress since 2017 after succeeding John Carney. Born in Philadelphia in 1962 and residing in Wilmington, she graduated with a BA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1985.
