Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Delaware’s at-large district since 2017, has been vocal on social media regarding various issues. Her recent tweets cover topics from discrimination at the Department of Veterans Affairs to celebrations of Juneteenth.
On June 18, 2025, Senator Rochester expressed her concerns about the current administration’s policies towards veterans. She stated that “This administration is openly advocating for discrimination at the @DeptVetAffairs for patients and providers alike.” The senator criticized these actions as “cruel and dystopian,” suggesting that veterans are being denied care based on their marital status or political preferences.
In a tweet dated June 19, 2025, Senator Rochester acknowledged the significance of Juneteenth in Delaware. She remarked that “Up and down our state, Delawareans are commemorating Juneteenth.” While celebrating Freedom Day’s progress, she reminded followers of the ongoing journey towards equality by stating, “let us not forget how far we have yet to go.”
The following day, June 20, 2025, she shared her personal experience attending a local Juneteenth event in West Rehoboth. Senator Rochester tweeted about feeling “the joy and spirit of the community” during the celebration and expressed gratitude for being part of it with her constituents.
Lisa Blunt Rochester was born in Philadelphia in 1962 and resides in Wilmington. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA in 1985.
