Eric Morrison, a Delaware state representative, said on Facebook that a proposed Pentagon recruitment campaign involving the late Charlie Kirk resembled N*zi youth recruitment.
“Full-on N*zi youth recruitment,” said Morrison, according to Facebook.
According to NBC News, the Pentagon aims to maintain recent recruiting momentum. Charlie Kirk’s connection with conservative youth could potentially aid the proposed campaign, as many of his followers are within the age group targeted by military recruitment.
Fox News reported that earlier this week, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania criticized members of his own party for rhetoric comparing President Donald Trump to Hitler and members of the Republican party to Nazis or fascists. “I think you just don’t ever, ever compare anyone to Hitler and those kinds of extreme things,” Fetterman said. He further commented on Charlie Kirk’s situation, saying that Kirk was shot and emphasized the need to lower the temperature in political discourse. “We can’t compare people to these kinds of figures in history. And this is not an autocrat. This is a product of a democratic election.”
U.S. military enlistment trends indicate long-term challenges. According to USAFacts, Fiscal Year 2024 saw about 146,473 enlistees, marking a 14% increase from Fiscal Year 2022. Despite this rebound, structural hurdles persist: only about one in four young Americans qualify for service due to health, education, or legal barriers, highlighting a decade-long decline in eligibility and willingness to serve.
Morrison represents Delaware’s 27th District in the state House as a Democrat and was first elected in 2020 after unseating Earl Jaques Jr. According to the Delaware General Assembly, he grew up in Bridgeville and earned an English degree with a History minor from the University of Delaware in 1996. His professional background includes work in education, human resources, and healthcare. He chairs the Transportation Committee and also serves on Education, Health & Human Development, Labor, Veterans Affairs, and Elections committees.
