Delaware men’s swimming and diving athlete Matvei Namakonov was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Third Team, the organization announced on April 29.
This recognition is significant as Namakonov becomes the first in program history to receive this award multiple times, having also been named to the third team in 2025. The honor highlights his consistent academic and athletic performance during his collegiate career.
Namakonov, a senior from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, has maintained a 3.89 grade point average while majoring in physics over four years at Delaware. He is described as one of the most prolific swimmers in program history and is a four-time NCAA qualifier. He holds eight school records for the Fightin’ Blue Hens and is both a conference record holder and ASUN championship meet record holder in the 100-breaststroke event.
Notably, Namakonov became the first swimmer from Delaware to make an NCAA A Final with his performance at the NCAA Championships. His preliminary swim of 50.49 seconds in the 100-breaststroke ranks as the eighteenth-fastest time ever recorded for that event.
Only two other athletes from Delaware men’s swimming and diving—Gavin Currie and Brian McGillen—have previously received this honor outside of Namakonov. In addition to these achievements, he is also recognized as a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American.
The announcement underscores both academic excellence and athletic achievement within Delaware’s swimming program.
