Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, representing Delaware’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently shared her concerns and calls to action through a series of tweets.
On May 9, 2025, Senator Rochester expressed her concern regarding the dismissal of Dr. Carla Hayden from her position as Librarian of Congress. She stated, “I am deeply troubled by the apparent firing of Dr. Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress. It’s reported that she was notified through an after-hours email.” Dr. Hayden was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate for a ten-year term.
In another tweet on May 9, 2025, Senator Rochester reminded Delaware residents about upcoming school board elections, saying “Attention Delaware: Tuesday, May 13th is School Board Election Day! There are elections taking place in districts across all three counties.” She emphasized the importance of voting and provided a link for voters to make their plans.
Later that day, Senator Rochester addressed issues related to air traffic control at Newark airport. She noted that “The situation at Newark airport is a serious concern,” highlighting the ripple effects felt by other airports such as PHL (Philadelphia International Airport). She called for investments in training and equipping air traffic controllers to prevent future tragedies.
Lisa Blunt Rochester was born in Philadelphia in 1962 and currently resides in Wilmington. A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA earned in 1985, she succeeded John Carney as Delaware’s congressional representative.
