Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Delaware’s at-large district since 2017, has used her social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown attributed to Republican lawmakers.
On October 4, 2025, Blunt Rochester posted: “Today is Day 4 of the Republican Government Shutdown. It’s time for Republicans to get serious, come back to work, and negotiate a real solution for the American people.”
Later that same day, she reiterated her concerns regarding economic uncertainty and called for an end to the shutdown. In her words: “We don’t need the reports to know this administration has been a disaster for our economy, but the uncertainty caused by this delay won’t help anything. Republicans need to come back to work and reopen the government.” This post was made on October 4, 2025.
Continuing her commentary on October 5, 2025, Blunt Rochester wrote: “5 Days into the Republican Government Shutdown. They could end this anytime they wanted, but they shut down the government so they didn’t have to fix the health care crisis THEY created.”
Blunt Rochester’s remarks arrive amid a period of heightened partisanship in Washington as negotiations stall over federal funding. She has consistently represented Delaware’s at-large district since replacing John Carney in 2017 and resides in Wilmington after being born in Philadelphia in 1962. The congresswoman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University (1985).
Government shutdowns have historically resulted from impasses between political parties over budgetary or policy issues, leading to disruptions in federal services and employee furloughs.
