Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, representing Delaware’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, shared her concerns regarding recent legislative actions through a series of tweets on May 16, 2025.

In a tweet posted at 14:22 UTC, Senator Rochester criticized House Republicans for their votes across several committees. She stated that in Energy & Commerce, they voted to “gut Medicaid,” while in the Agriculture Committee, they opted to “slash SNAP.” Additionally, she mentioned that in Ways & Means, Republicans decided to use the money saved from these cuts to provide tax breaks for the ultra-rich. She emphasized that “they should have to answer for it.” “In Energy & Commerce, House Republicans voted to gut Medicaid…They should have to answer for it.”

Later that day at 19:56 UTC, Senator Rochester highlighted the financial implications of the Republican plan. According to her tweet, under this plan, “the wealthy would see thousands more in after-tax income while the middle and lower classes get little gains or actually LOSE money.” She described this as further evidence of where the administration’s priorities lie. “Under Republicans’ plan…Further proof where this administration’s priorities are.”

At 22:17 UTC on the same day, Senator Rochester expressed her disapproval of political interference in personal medical decisions. She described a situation as “outrageous,” arguing that difficult family decisions should be made by individuals and their doctors rather than political officials. “This is outrageous – the incredibly difficult decisions this family is faced with should be made by them and their doctor, not political officials.”

Lisa Blunt Rochester was born in Philadelphia in 1962 and currently resides in Wilmington. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA in 1985.
