Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, a U.S. Congress member representing Delaware’s at-large district since 2017, took to social media to comment on the recent federal government shutdown and its impact on Americans.
On September 30, 2025, Senator Blunt Rochester wrote, “This President wants to shut down the government.”
The following morning, she addressed the consequences of the shutdown in a post dated October 1, 2025: “This morning, the federal government shut down because Republicans refused to negotiate.
Premiums are set to double. 15 million Americans are losing their health insurance. All to protect their billionaire tax breaks.
It’s time for Republicans to come to the table.”
Later that day, she continued her criticism with another statement: “If Republicans were serious, they’d be listening to the people who are saying: ‘please don’t take away our care’.
If Republicans were serious, they wouldn’t stand by while health insurance premiums double.
It’s time for Republicans to get serious.”
Blunt Rochester has served as Delaware’s at-large representative since replacing John Carney in 2017. She was born in Philadelphia in 1962 and currently resides in Wilmington. A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA earned in 1985, Blunt Rochester is known for her advocacy on healthcare issues and has been vocal about policy disagreements surrounding government funding and health insurance access.
