Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, representing Delaware’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed issues of political violence and affordable housing through a series of tweets. Born in Philadelphia in 1962, Rochester has been an active political figure advocating for peace and housing reforms.
On June 14, 2025, Senator Rochester expressed her concern over recent events in Minnesota by stating “This is a dark day.” She emphasized that “political violence has no place in our democracy” and called for unity among leaders to condemn the incident. The senator also extended her prayers to the victims and their families affected by the tragedy.
Later that day, she reiterated her stance against political violence with another tweet: “On behalf of all Delawareans, I am proud to stand alongside my fellow elected leaders – Democrat and Republican – to say that political violence has no place in America.” She urged citizens to engage peacefully within the democratic process.
On June 16, 2025, Senator Rochester shifted focus to housing issues by announcing her participation in an upcoming event: “Looking forward to joining @BPC_Bipartisan’s #HousingSummit25 on Wednesday to talk about all we’re doing to increase access to affordable housing across our nation.” Her commitment includes efforts to increase supply, reduce costs, and ensure adequate housing for every American.
Lisa Blunt Rochester holds a BA from Fairleigh Dickinson University (1985) and resides in Wilmington. She succeeded John Carney as Delaware’s representative in Congress.
