Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, who has represented Delaware’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, addressed the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on health care access in a series of posts on October 5, 2025.
In her first post at 13:03 UTC, Blunt Rochester announced, “I’m on @MSNBC to discuss the Republican government shutdown and how I’m fighting to restore access to health care. Tune in.”
Later that morning, she commented on Republican messaging regarding health insurance policy. At 13:36 UTC, she wrote, “Republicans know this is a lie, but they repeat it anyway. It’s because they can’t defend kicking millions off of their insurance and raising costs for everyone.”
At 14:31 UTC, Blunt Rochester urged action from lawmakers: “We should be doing everything in our power to protect our friends and neighbors from the oncoming health care crisis. Instead, Republicans refused to negotiate and shut down the government. My message? Get back to Washington and do your job.”
Blunt Rochester has been a member of Congress since replacing John Carney in 2017 and currently resides in Wilmington. She was born in Philadelphia in 1962 and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA in 1985.
The recent government shutdown referenced by Blunt Rochester reflects ongoing partisan disputes over federal spending priorities and health care funding.
