Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, a U.S. Congress member representing Delaware’s at-large district since 2017, posted a series of statements on October 1, 2025, addressing recent political developments and extending religious greetings.
In her first post, Blunt Rochester commented on the federal government shutdown, writing, “Let Me Be Blunt: Republicans just shut down the government.” (October 1, 2025).
Later that day, she criticized actions by the Trump administration regarding federal funding and energy policy. She stated, “This is a blatant attempt by the Trump admin. to go after opponents by illegally withholding funds, killing jobs, and raising energy costs for red and blue states alike. If they think this is a winning strategy, they’re dead wrong. I won’t be swayed by corrupt abuses of power.” (October 1, 2025).
In an evening message marking Yom Kippur, Blunt Rochester addressed Jewish communities in Delaware and globally: “This evening, Jewish people in Delaware and around the world are coming together to begin observing Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish faith. Wishing everyone a meaningful and easy fast, and a blessed Yom Kippur.” (October 1, 2025).
Blunt Rochester has served as Delaware’s at-large congressional representative since replacing John Carney in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1962 and currently residing in Wilmington, she earned her BA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1985.
