University of Delaware track and field distance runner Leah Clear received the Conference USA Winter Spirit of Service Award, the league announced on Apr. 9. The award recognizes student-athletes who excel in community service, maintain good academic standing, and actively participate in their sport.
The recognition highlights Clear’s commitment both on and off the track. The Spirit of Service award is presented three times a year to honor student-athletes whose sports hold championships during each season.
Clear, a junior from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, set a personal best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:13.82 this season. At the 2026 indoor Conference USA Track & Field Championships, she finished eleventh in the mile with a time of 4:57.59 and anchored the distance medley relay team that placed sixth overall at 11:54.51—a mark that ranks eighth in program history. She also holds sixth place in school history for her outdoor 1500 meters performance at 4:26.51.
Outside athletics, Clear volunteers at Faithful Friends Animal Society in Delaware where she cares for dogs and cats by feeding them, cleaning up after them, and providing attention while they await adoption. She sometimes takes dogs along on her runs to help keep them active outside the facility and promotes animal adoption through her social media channels.
Clear is majoring in biomedical engineering with a GPA of 3.84 and has earned Dean’s List honors every semester at Delaware as well as spots on both the fall 2025 CUSA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Academic Medal Recipients list.
