University of Delaware women’s tennis players Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska broke the program’s career doubles wins record with their 44th victory as a pair during a 7-0 sweep against Monmouth on Tuesday, April 7.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for the team, highlighting the strength of its doubles play this season. The Fightin’ Blue Hens improved their overall record to 16-4 and secured their 18th consecutive home win. This also marked the third straight year that Delaware has recorded at least ten home victories in a season.
Head coach Pablo Montana said, “That was another good win for us and we’re definitely carrying strong momentum right now. Huge congratulations to Maryia and Paulina for setting the record for most career doubles wins in Delaware women’s tennis history. Our doubles have really been the backbone of our success this spring, and I’m excited to see how they continue to finish out the season. In singles, we did a great job getting off to early leads on all courts and we’re continuing to play with a lot of confidence.”
In addition to breaking the team record, Hrynashka earned her personal best with her 24th individual doubles win this year. Other highlights included Navya Vadlamudi and Amelia Gorman securing a decisive 6-1 victory in their doubles match, while Jurkowska won her singles match on court two by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Gorman notched her fifteenth singles win in dual matches with a straight-set victory.
Hanna Vinahradava improved her season singles record to 21-3 after winning an extended three-set match. Payton Tomichek returned from an absence since March 13 to claim her third-straight singles victory.
Delaware will continue its homestand by facing Saint Joseph’s on Thursday, April 9 at DFH Outdoor Courts.
