Ella Wanzer, a player for the University of Delaware women’s basketball team, has been named to the Conference USA Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team. The announcement was made by the league on Thursday. Wanzer is the first member of the Fightin’ Blue Hens to receive this recognition since Hannah Jardine during the 2016-17 season.
Wanzer, who comes from Buffalo, New York, is among five athletes in Conference USA to earn this honor for the current season. The other recipients are Denika Lightbourne from FIU, Emmy Stout from Liberty, Paris Bradley from LA Tech, and Fanta Kone from Sam Houston.
A graduate student majoring in fashion and apparel studies with a cumulative GPA of 4.0, Wanzer has started 25 games this season and averaged 8.4 points per game. She reached a career milestone on December 20 against Akron by scoring her 1,000th point in a game where she finished with 25 points and made seven out of ten three-point attempts. This performance tied her for second-most threes made in a single game in program history.
The University of Delaware women’s basketball team will conclude its regular season at Liberty on Friday, March 6 at 7 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
