The University of Delaware women’s tennis team defeated Saint Joseph’s 4-0 on the DFH Outdoor Courts Thursday afternoon, April 9. The victory marks the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ fifth straight win and extends their home winning streak to 19 matches. Delaware now holds a season record of 17-4, while Saint Joseph’s falls to 4-16.
This match highlights Delaware’s continued dominance at home and their strong performance in both singles and doubles play. The team’s ability to maintain momentum has contributed to its recent successes.
“We’re doing a great job carrying momentum, especially in doubles where we’ve been dominant,” head coach Pablo Montana said. “In singles, our physicality and consistency really wore them down today.”
Delaware improved its all-time record against Saint Joseph’s to 33-3, having won the last seven meetings between the teams. In doubles action, Katie Dollens and Lara Russiniello secured a win at second doubles with a score of 6-1, while Emma Akselrod and Hanna Vinahradava also posted a 6-1 victory in third doubles during their first pairing since February.
In singles play, Navya Vadlamudi achieved a quick win at fourth singles with scores of 6-0, 6-1 after conserving energy from an unfinished doubles match. Vinahradava remained undefeated this season when playing fifth singles by winning her match 6-3, 6-0. Russiniello clinched the overall match for Delaware by defeating her opponent in third singles with scores of 6-0, 6-4. All three players who recorded singles wins have each won nine out of their last ten matches.
Looking ahead, Delaware will continue its home stretch by facing NJIT on Friday, April 10 at the DFH Outdoor Courts.
