Delaware women’s tennis defeats Army for fifth straight win

The University of Delaware women’s tennis team, ranked No. 63, secured a 4-1 victory against Army in West Point, New York on Saturday. This win marks the team’s fifth consecutive match victory and brings their season record to 8-2. Army’s record moves to 14-4.

Delaware claimed the doubles point for the tenth straight match. The pairing of Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska defeated Madison Smith and Isabella Brilliant from Army with a score of 6-4. Katie Dollens and Lara Russiniello also won their doubles match against Emma Sy and Allison Harris, finishing 6-4. The second doubles match between Emily Ruckno/Olivia Mellynchuk (Army) and Amelia Gorman/Navya Vadlamudi (Delaware) was unfinished at 4-5.

In singles play, Madison Smith from Army won against Maryia Hrynashka with scores of 6-3, 6-4. Amelia Gorman extended her singles winning streak to eight matches by defeating Emily Ruckno (6-3, 7-5). Lara Russiniello earned a win over Ylan Duong (6-3, 6-2), while Hanna Vinahradava improved her overall singles record to 15-2 after overcoming Olivia Mellynchuk in three sets (6-4, 6-7 [5-7], 6-2). Two other singles matches were left unfinished.

Looking ahead, Delaware is set to host Hofstra at Elkton Indoor Tennis on Friday at noon.
