The University of Delaware women’s basketball team announced on May 1 that Kennise Johnson, a transfer from Iowa, has joined the program. Head coach Sarah Jenkins said Johnson will be part of the Fightin’ Blue Hens roster for the upcoming season.
Johnson is a 5-foot-5 guard who spent three seasons with Iowa. During her time there, she was part of the Hawkeyes squad that competed for the national championship in the 2023-24 season and appeared in 20 games throughout her career.
Before joining college basketball, Johnson graduated from Example Academy in 2023. As a junior at Example Academy, she helped her team win the Prep School National Championship and averaged 11.3 points, 6.2 assists, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game during that title run. In her senior year, she was nominated for the McDonald’s All-American Game and ranked as the number three guard and number thirteen overall recruit from Illinois in her class by Prep Girl Hoops.
Johnson was born in Joliet, Illinois to Aujani and Emmanuel Etienne and has eight siblings: Kach, Ary, Ayanna, Alyssa, Amyah, EJ, Ramon, and Amontae.
The addition of Johnson brings experience to Delaware’s backcourt as they prepare for next season.
