The University of Delaware track and field team competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton, on May 1-2.
The event served as the final regular season meet for the Blue Hens before they head to the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. Several athletes achieved notable performances, setting personal records and moving up in program history rankings.
Olamide Ayeni won the women’s discus with a throw of 53.85 meters, setting a new personal record and ranking second all-time in program history. Ayeni also finished tenth in the shot put with a mark of 14.34 meters. Leah Clear placed ninth in the 1500-meters at 4:25.88, which is now fifth all-time for Delaware. Morgan Mims finished fourth in the 400-meters with a time of 55.84 seconds, placing her ninth all-time for the school.
Other top performances included Erin McGoey’s new personal best of 10:57.29 in an unspecified event, now sixth all-time; Sophia Axelrod finishing eighth in hammer throw at 55.55 meters; Taylor Stone placing eighth in high jump at 1.68 meters; Rachel Schmitt coming tenth in javelin with a throw of 40.49 meters; and Nubia Evans-Shields taking tenth place in discus at 45.70 meters.
Additional strong showings came from Kadence Dumas (800-meters), Nina Sgambelluri (5,000-meters), Emily Brown (400-hurdles), and Alexis Hardy (100-meters). The women’s relay team—composed of Hardy, Jacquelyn Rolle, Jahzara Emeli, and Mims—finished seventh with a time of 48.22 seconds.
The next competition for Delaware will be at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships from May 14-16 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
