The University of Delaware track and field team celebrated senior day and hosted the Delaware Invitational at Grant Stadium on April 10.
The event highlighted several strong performances from the team, with multiple athletes achieving top placements in their events. The meet served as an opportunity to recognize seniors while also providing a competitive platform for both new and returning athletes.
Lauren Leath finished first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.06, which is now the second-fastest time in program history. Taylor Stone placed second in the high jump at 1.70 meters, ranking third all-time for Delaware, and also secured third place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.94 seconds.
Nubia Evans-Shields made her collegiate debut by winning the discus throw at 48.52 meters—a personal best that ranks fourth all-time for Delaware. Madison Gee claimed first place in the triple jump with an effort of 11.52 meters, marking eighth-best in school history.
Other notable performances included Morgan Mims winning the 200 meters (24.67 seconds), Maya Giordano taking first place in hammer throw (48.44 meters), Rachel Schmitt leading javelin throw (42.92 meters), Erin McGoey topping the podium in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:18.33), Jordan Blanck winning the 800 meters (2:15.33), and Nina Sgambelluri finishing first in the 5,000 meter run (17:45.55). Alexis Hardy was runner-up in the 100 meters (12.62). The women’s relay team—Kadence Dumas, Ella Peterson, Blanck, and Lauren Thomas—placed second overall with a time of 4:00.92.
Chali Baumann rounded out top finishes by securing third place in long jump at a distance of 5.41 meters.
Looking ahead, several Delaware athletes are scheduled to compete at Bucknell multi’s from April 12-13.
