University of Delaware senior Matvei Namakonov has been recognized as the ASUN Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week, according to an announcement made by the conference on Tuesday.
This is Namakonov’s second time receiving the weekly honor this season. At the recent Bucknell Invitational, he won all eight events in which he competed. He currently holds a national ranking of 12th in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 51.47 seconds, which also meets NCAA qualifying standards. In addition, he set a pool record for that event in Lewisburg.
Namakonov also secured victories in both 50-freestyle races at the invitational, recording a season-best time of 19.69 seconds in the finals and standing out as the only swimmer to finish under 20 seconds.
As part of two relay teams, Namakonov contributed to setting pool records in both the 200-medley relay (1:27.00) and the 400-freestyle relay (2:57.46).
The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens are scheduled to compete next in Florida on December 31 at a tri-meet against FGCU and SMU.
