The University of Delaware men’s tennis team defeated Hofstra by a score of 4-0 in its final home match of the season on Mar. 29. The win brings the Fightin’ Blue Hens to a record of 13-5, while Hofstra remains winless at 0-14.
This victory marks Delaware’s seventh consecutive win over Hofstra and is the team’s third straight match without conceding a point. The result also extends Delaware’s home winning streak to sixteen matches and secures their second undefeated home campaign.
Interim head coach Nathan Perrone said, “Great bounce back win today. Happy for our senior captain Euan Mackenzie to clinch the match in his last home match at Delaware. Time to recover and get ready for the next one. Very tough battle coming up on Wednesday at Drexel.”
In doubles play, Federico Garbero and Pere Prat secured a victory with a score of 6-4 after Hofstra defaulted in third doubles. Tobey Lock and Euan Mackenzie won their last home doubles match together with a score of 6-3.
In singles competition, Delaware took an early lead after Hofstra did not fill the sixth singles spot. Federico Garbero won his second singles match decisively, defeating Samarth Deepudass 6-2, 6-0. Senior captain Euan Mackenzie clinched the overall victory for Delaware by winning his third singles match against Dominic Anderson with scores of 6-3, 6-3.
The Blue Hens will next face Drexel on Wednesday, April 1 at noon as they continue their season on the road.
