Four University of Delaware men’s tennis players have been recognized in the ITA National Doubles Rankings, marking a first for the program. Federico Garbero, Tobey Lock, Euan Mackenzie, and Itamar Tapiro received national rankings following their performances during the fall tournament season.
Lock and Mackenzie are ranked 35th nationally, while Garbero and Tapiro hold the No. 62 spot. Both pairs contributed to a combined 14-1 record in fall tournaments.
Delaware is among three Conference USA teams with doubles pairs featured in the ITA rankings and is the only team from its conference with more than one pair in the top 90 nationwide.
The ITA evaluates doubles teams using several criteria, including win-loss records with extra weight given to victories over higher-ranked opponents. The strength of schedule and head-to-head results are also important factors considered for ranking placement.
Lock and Mackenzie finished their fall campaign at 7-1 as partners. They won the ITA Northeast Regionals and became the first doubles pair from Delaware to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. With 42 wins together, they rank second all-time as a partnership in program history. During regionals, they defeated No. 45 Sebastian Sec and Meecah Bigun in the quarterfinals and overcame No. 37 Sachin Palta and Thanaphat Boosarawongse from Columbia University in the semifinals.
Garbero joined Tapiro as a doubles partner after transferring from UT-Arlington. The new pairing achieved a perfect 7-0 record this fall, including a victory over Saint Joseph’s Othman Bezzaz and Ernesto Ruy—currently ranked No. 70—and won the Crimson Doubles Draw at October’s Saint Joseph’s Invitational.
The Blue Hens plan to announce their spring schedule later this year.
