The University of Delaware men’s basketball program announced on April 30 that Nick Petronio will join the team as a transfer for the 2026-27 season. Head coach Martin Ingelsby said Petronio is transferring from Boston College, where he spent the past two seasons.
Ingelsby said in a statement, “We are excited to welcome Nick to our Blue Hen basketball family. He is a big-time shooter with an elite basketball IQ and competitive spirit that makes him a perfect fit for what we are building here at Delaware. Welcome to Newark, Nick!”
Petronio, who stands at 6-foot-3, did not appear in any games during his freshman or sophomore years at Boston College. Prior to college, he played high school basketball at Milton Academy and was recognized as a Class A All-NEPSAC selection for the 2023-24 season. He was known as one of the top shooters nationally, making nearly 44 percent of his shots during Nike EYBL circuits in 2022.
During his time at Milton Academy, Petronio earned several honors including being named an All-NEPSAC Class A selection and Boston Globe All-Scholastic honoree in the 2021-22 season. He helped lead his team to nearly fifty wins over his junior and senior years and was rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals, 247Sports, and On3. Additionally, he played with Expressions Elite AAU team.
Petronio’s addition is expected to strengthen Delaware’s backcourt depth as they look ahead to future seasons.
