The University of Delaware men’s basketball program announced on Apr. 27 the addition of transfer DeShawn Harris-Smith to its 2026-27 roster. Head coach Martin Ingelsby said Harris-Smith will join the Fightin’ Blue Hens after playing last season at Georgetown.
Harris-Smith is expected to strengthen Delaware’s lineup with his experience and versatility as a guard. “We are thrilled to welcome DeShawn to our Delaware basketball family,” Ingelsby said. “Being able to bring in a three level scorer who has done it at the highest levels will be a huge addition to our team. Welcome to Newark, DeShawn!”
Standing at 6-foot-5, Harris-Smith has played in 75 games during his college career, starting in 38 of them. He averages 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 39 percent from the field overall.
Last season at Georgetown, he appeared in six games where he averaged over sixteen minutes per contest along with 5.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, shooting sixty percent from the floor.
Before joining Georgetown, Harris-Smith spent two seasons at Maryland where he made notable contributions including scoring double figures in his debut as a freshman and earning Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors.
Harris-Smith grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia and played high school basketball for St. Paul VI High School where he received multiple accolades such as Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year and Naismith High School All-American honors.
Looking ahead, Delaware expects that Harris-Smith’s background and skills will contribute positively both on and off the court.
