The University of Delaware baseball team won against Delaware State by a score of 7-5 as part of the Route One Rivalry on April 28.
This victory marks the second time this season that the Fightin’ Blue Hens have beaten the Hornets, bringing their overall record to 14-31. The win is significant for both teams as it highlights local competition and showcases individual player performances.
All nine Blue Hens batters recorded at least one hit during Tuesday’s game, with the offense totaling 15 hits. Evan Bouldin went three-for-four with a double and a walk, while Anthony DeCesare finished three-for-five with a home run and two runs batted in. Jackson Hulcher started on the mound for Delaware, pitching three innings and allowing three earned runs off two hits while striking out two batters. Matt Reyes followed with four innings without allowing any runs or hits and struck out six.
Delaware State took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first two innings. The Blue Hens responded in the fifth inning when Sal Mineo doubled to right field to bring in Anthony Charles. In the sixth inning, singles from Jeremy Wolf, Noah Burroughs, and Mineo resulted in a three-run rally that gave Delaware its first lead of the game. DeCesare extended that lead in the seventh inning with a two-run home run to left field. After Delaware State narrowed the gap to 6-5 in the eighth inning, LT Cockrill added an insurance run for Delaware.
Looking ahead, Delaware will return to Bob Hannah Stadium for a three-game Conference USA series against FIU from May 1 through May 3. All games are scheduled to be available on ESPN+.
