The University of Delaware baseball team won a close game against Florida International University by a score of 9-8 on May 1 in the opening match of their Conference USA weekend series at Bob Hannah Stadium.
The victory improves the Fightin’ Blue Hens’ record to 15-31 overall and 3-19 in Conference USA play. The result was significant as Delaware overcame an early five-run deficit, showing resilience during the matchup.

Ryan McLaughlin finished the game for Delaware on the mound, recording his third save despite allowing two earned runs.
FIU took an early lead with a three-run home run in the second inning followed by a two-run double in the third. After falling behind 6-1, Delaware responded with a five-run fourth inning that included key plays from Mineo, Sam Winsett, Bouldin, and Anthony DeCesare to tie the game. Jeremy Wolf gave Delaware its first lead with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Noah Burroughs added another insurance run late in the game before FIU scored twice more but could not complete their comeback.
The teams are scheduled to play again tomorrow evening at Bob Hannah Stadium. The university will host alumni day during Saturday’s game and honor former coach Bob Hannah.
