The University of Delaware baseball team marked Bob Hannah Day by defeating Florida International University 8-3 at Hannah Stadium, according to a May 2 announcement. The event brought together more than 60 alumni and honored the legacy of the late head coach Bob Hannah.
The game was significant for the Blue Hens as it improved their overall record to 16-31 and their Conference USA record to 4-19. The victory also extended Delaware’s winning streak to three games, with five wins in their last seven contests.
Offensively, LT Cockrill contributed two hits, two runs batted in, and a walk. Matthew Minckler added two hits and scored a run. Sal Mineo and Harry Carr each drove in multiple runs as well. On the mound, Chase Deibler started for Delaware, pitching three scoreless innings and earning his second win of the season. Doug Marose provided four innings of relief work while Ryan Pugh closed out the final two innings without allowing a run, securing his second save.
Delaware took an early lead with a three-run first inning that included an Anthony DeCesare sacrifice fly and a Cockrill double that brought home two runs. The team expanded its lead in the third inning through timely hitting by Vincent Davis and Harry Carr. Mineo added another run batted in during the sixth inning before FIU responded with a home run in the seventh; however, additional RBIs from Carr and Mineo helped secure Delaware’s victory.
Before play began, alumni gathered on field for pregame ceremonies that included Bruce Hannah—son of Bob Hannah—throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. The Blue Hens also celebrated earning their first Conference USA series win this season.
The series against FIU concludes tomorrow morning at 11:35 a.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
